Of course, neither Lelouch nor his sister were aware of their father’s plans, and when the Holy Britannian Empire attacks and conquers Japan, Lelouch, who was already furious with his father for not pursuing Marianne’s killer, is absolutely enraged. Despite this trauma, Lelouch and his sister were sent to Japan by the Britannian emperor as political envoys, to give the Japanese a false sense of security while the Holy Britannian Empire prepared for the invasion.
When Lelouch was a child, Marianne was brutally murdered, and Lelouch’s sister, Nunnally vi Britannia witnessed the murder, and the trauma resulted in her losing her eyesight and her ability to walk. In this backdrop, the show follows a boy called Lelouch vi Britannia, who is the exiled son of the Britannian emperor Charles zi Britannia and his royal consort Marianne vi Britannia. Following the conquest of Japan, the Holy Britannian Empire christens the place as Area 11, and the residents of Area 11 are referred to as elevens. Caught off-guard, the defenders have no way to defend against the onslaught and Japan falls swiftly in front of the forces of the Holy Britannian Empire. In this backdrop, the show starts off in 2010, when the Holy Britannian Empire invades Japan in the Chinese Federation using giant robotic weapons called Knightmare Frames.
